Our race

The Circuit de Wallonie competition

The « Circuit de Wallonie – Ville de Charleroi » has been a reference in the cycling world for 54 years, having welcomed champions such as Tom Boonen, Peter Van Petegem, Rik Verbrugghe, Greg Van Avermaet, Niki Terpstra or Philippe Gilbert.
It is with great determination that the city of Charleroi supports our event. This year again, the event will take place on our beautiful Walloon roads, passing through Thuin, Ecaussines, La Louvière, Binche, Beaumont, the lakes of Eau d’Heure, Walcourt, Nalinne before returning to our local circuits in Charleroi.

We would like to thank all the police zones for their great collaboration.
As an international event, this year the race will welcome several World Tour and Continental Pro teams.
This entire organisation would not work if it was not orchestrated by an exceptional organising committee.
The growing enthusiasm of the partners allows us to foresee a beautiful evolution.
Come and spend an unforgettable day on 26th May 2022 at the great cycling festival in Charleroi.

Background

The royal Courrier Sport Baulet, a name full of history and legendary

The Club of Wanfercée-Baulet  » CCB  » was founded in 1927 on the initiative of a passionate man called Mr Gogneaux, who wanted to give a village an external reputation.
For many years, his cyclists were very popular in Belgium. From the initiative of his son Willy Gogneaux who took over the club after his father’s death, the club changed its name to “Courrier Sport Baulet”, named after the local newspaper published by the family.
In the 1960’s, 2 clubs coexisted in Wanfecée-Baulet, the “Pelforth Sauvage Lejeune” and the” Baulet Blanchit” nicknamed the white train because it was sponsored by the local laundry. They gathered more than 200 riders and totalled nearly 250 annual victories with various Belgian championship titles. These years were also marked by the rise of many riders trained in the ranks of the CSB towards professional teams (Ferdinand Bracke, Carmine Preciozi, Willy Monty, Walter Dalgal,…).

The other activity of the club, the organisation of famous races:
The “Etoile Hennuyère”, a 4-stages race over 3 days was launched in 1958, but later stopped for organisational and budgetary reasons. Claudy Criquielion, Etienne de Wilde, Moreno Argentin and Guido Bontempi animated the race, who at the time had not yet become the stars we were to know.

The “Circuit du Hainaut” was started in 1966 by Courrier Sport Baulet.
Over the years, many great names of our professional cycling have joined the list of winners of the event. For its 35th anniversary, the circuit was renamed « Circuit de Wallonie ». Today the race is part of the Belgian professional cup.
